But results of a new study by School of Medicine researchers challenge that assumption. Research shows autism diagnosis not occurring soon enough   Research from Paul Shattuck at the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis finds that the average age for children being diagnosed with autism is almost six years old.
